Welcome to Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian School

Our school has been offering classes for over 30 years. We offer instruction for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced students.

Our classes are taught by Ukraine-born qualified teachers in informal and fun classes. Some of the materials used in our classes include university-level textbooks (such as Ukrainian for Speakers of English by Roma Franko) as well as materials prepared personally to meet the needs of the students in each class. Instruction is presented in clear and naturally progressive lessons and includes oral and written exercises for home study. Online files that accompany the oral exercises for practicing pronunciation are available upon request.

Classes

Classes are held on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Our fall/winter semester begins in late September and the winter/spring semester begins in mid-January. The next semester begins Jan. 19, 2026, and runs until March 23, 2026.

This year, we are also offering optional Ukrainian embroidery classes, at no extra charge, beginning at 5pm. Instruction and all supplies provided for beginners and those who know how to embroider and want to work on a project.

Tuition

$225 for 10 classes, which includes the $5 annual society fee. Some Ukrainian learning materials are included with your tuition. Students in more advanced classes may need to purchase the textbooks. We accept e-transfers or mailed cheques. (Details provided to those who register.)
